Essay means to test or to try. The personal essay’s emphasis on the experimental and resisting convention have made it a particularly compelling genre for queer writers. How are queer writers using the essay to grapple with marginalized identities and bodies? How can an essay writing practice help us represent our selves and find our voices?
In this course, we will read a variety of essays from queer writers and study the ways they use craft to represent the self on the page. We will explore these possibilities in our own writing through writing prompts. Class will also include time to discuss and workshop student work.

Details: Queer Essaying takes place Thursdays July 20, July 27, August 2, August 10, August 17, and August 24 from 6:30-8:30pm remotely online via Zoom.
