All writers deserve the opportunity to improve their craft and advance their careers. That is why Literary Cleveland is committed to making our classes accessible to writers regardless of their financial situation by offering scholarships.
Thanks to generous donors and funders, we are able to offer a limited number of scholarships to our classes and workshops. Scholarships allow low- and limited-income writers in Northeast Ohio to take a Literary Cleveland class at low- or no-cost. We save spots in every class so that whenever possible scholarship applicants can attend even if a class fills up. In addition, we may be able to give out more scholarships if a class does not fill completely. Each semester when we announce our classes (in November, March, and July), we open up applications for class scholarships. Simply fill out our quick application form before the deadline. A committee we will inform you if you have been awarded a scholarship to attend that class at low-or no-cost.
Scholarships are limited to those currently residing in Northeast Ohio. Please apply for a scholarship if:
Don't reject yourself. Don’t stop yourself from applying because you don’t want to take the opportunity away from someone else who needs it more. Apply and let us sort that part out! Scholarships are not just for writers who cannot afford a class, they are also for writers who have limited discretionary money or who have to budget carefully.
If you think you might have the funds to take the class sometime in the future but don’t at the moment and there’s a class that will fit into your schedule coming up: you should apply. If you get the scholarship, and then down the line find yourself in a better financial situation, pay it forward by donating to the scholarship fund at that time.
Scholarship applications open in November for January-April classes, in March for May-August classes, and in July for September-December classes. Check this website for details and sign up for our newsletter to be informed about when scholarship applications open and close. If you have questions, email us at info@litcleveland.org.
Have you benefitted from a Literary Cleveland program? Want to help make that opportunity available to others? Donate to the Word for Word Scholarship Fund and support writers in your community. The scholarship fund helps cover instructor pay, class costs, and staff time to support the program, and your donation can make a direct impact in the life of a local writer.
Donate here today. If we raise enough money, we can offer writers in need the option of paying what they can for a class or taking a class for free, making our classes more accessible, inclusive, and diverse than ever before.
