Craft Talk

Memoir Writing Workshop: Embracing Diversity & Vulnerability

With:
Shalida A. Askanazi

This workshop invites writers to explore the art of memoir writing as a means of truth-telling, healing, and fostering human connection. We will focus on centering diverse voices and honoring the unique perspectives that each writer brings to the table.

Through guided prompts and group discussions, participants will be encouraged to lean into vulnerability, transforming personal experiences into powerful narratives.

Together, we will explore how identity, culture, and lived experience influence our stories, and how embracing difference enhances the collective writing community. Writers will have the opportunity to share their work in a supportive environment that values authenticity over perfection because perfection is never the goal.

Emphasis will be placed on building trust, listening deeply, and cultivating empathy for stories that may be very different from our own.

No prior writing experience is necessary, only a willingness to be open, brave, and curious.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have acquired new writing skills, sharpened their tools for memoir craft, and developed a deeper sense of connection to themselves and others.
