Workshop

Experimenting with Form: Using Different Narrative Forms to Write Your Story (FULL)

With:
Nardine Taleb

NOTE: This class is now full and we are no longer accepting registrations. Sorry! In the meantime, we invite you to check out our other offerings, sign up for our newsletter, and become a member to be the first to hear about newly added classes.

As a spin-off of the talk given at this year's Inkubator "More Than One Way: Writing Fiction in Non-traditional Forms," this generative workshop offers writers the opportunity to experiment with different forms of narrative fiction that deviate away from the classic three and four-act structures and linear plots of the Western world.

The class will include lectures, time to generate work, and time to workshop each other's stories. Readings will include works from Jamaica Kincaid, Ocean Vuong, and Haruki Murakami. Forms of narrative will include spirals, radials, fractals (as guided by Jane Alison's book "Meander, Spiral, Explode"), and others. The goal of the class is for participants to walk away with their own experimental work that they will craft during the class and with the knowledge of existing literature that uses non-linear plots.
