Have an idea for comic or graphic novel but aren't sure where to begin? In this workshop, students will learn how to transform their loose story idea into a strong base to move forward writing a graphic novel. Through guided exercises and discussion, participants will learn how to create a short pitch for their book, a story overview, and bios for their main characters. This will include examining examples from published graphic novels. By the end of the class, students will have developed a clear concept and created a roadmap for moving their project forward.

Fern Haught is an illustrator and author currently based in Cleveland, OH. He loves to tell stories about queer people set in fantasy worlds. Their picture books and graphic novels often incorporate magic and focus on characters and their relationships. When they aren’t making books they’re doing graphic design and crafting illustrations for games. The Baker and the Bard, their debut YA graphic novel, released with Feiwel and Friends.
