Are you writing a poems, a collection? It's all welcome in this six-week generative workshop designed to help you create new poetry or make progress on your project. You'll respond to writing prompts, write outside of class to meet weekly deadlines, analyze published poetry, and discuss craft elements such as form, rhythm, acoustics, meter, voice, and more.

Details: Creating New Poetry - August 2026 takes place Mondays August 10, August 17, August 24, August 24, August 31, September 7, and September 14 from 6:30-8:30pm remotely online via Zoom.

Level: All levels

Format: Craft and generative workshop with writing in and outside of class.

Location: This class takes place remotely online via Zoom.

Size: Limited to 14 participants (including two scholarship recipients).

Suggested Sequence: Follow this class with a craft and/or generative poetry workshop, a feedback course, or a publishing course.

Scholarships: Two scholarship spots are available for this class for writers in Northeast Ohio. Apply by April 19. Click here to apply.

Carrie George

Carrie George is a poet and teacher living in Akron, OH. She received her MFA from Kent State University and the Northeast Ohio MFA program. She is the manager at Elizabeth’s Bookshop & Writing Centre.

This class takes place remotely online via Zoom.
