In this class, we'll read one craft book before each session. During class time, we'll discuss the book and then work on exercises inspired by the content. As follow-up, students will expand on and refine their in-class work to turn in by the next class, and receive feedback from the instructor. We'll be reading the following books:

Details: Craftopia: Taking Inspiration from Books on Writing with Mary Grimm takes place Saturdays October 17, October 24, November 7, and November 14th (skipping October 31st) from 1:00-3:00pm remotely online via Zoom.
Prerequisites: Any emerging level writing course
Genre: Fiction (but open to writers of other genres!)
Level: Intermediate
Format: Reading seminar with elements of generative workshops with in-class feedback.
Location: This class takes place remotely online via Zoom.
Size: Limited to 14 participants (including two scholarship recipients).

Mary Grimm has had three books published, Left to Themselves, Transubstantiation, and Stealing Time. Her stories have appeared in The New Yorker, Antioch Review, and the Mississippi Review, as well as in a number of journals that publish flash fiction, including Helen, The Citron Review, and Tiferet. Currently, she is working on a series of climate change novellas set in past and future Cleveland.
