It is a great opportunity to get feedback on your writing from advanced writers from around the world in a beautiful setting. Learn more about the DISQUIET Program at https://disquietinternational.org/the-program/.

Eligibility

To be considered for this fellowship you must live in Northeast Ohio, be able to take two weeks off to attend the program June 28-July 10, 2026, and have or be able to get a passport to travel to Lisbon. We are looking for emerging writers who would benefit from the experience but would not be able to afford to attend on their own.

How to Apply

To apply for this Literary Cleveland Fellowship, simply complete the standard DISQUIET application form and check the box for the Literary Cleveland Fellowship which says "If you're a resident of Northeast Ohio and would like to be considered for the Literary Cleveland Fellowship, please check the box below." Applications cost $20 and require you to complete a simple application form as well as send in a writing sample of 10-25 pages or 6 poems, depending on your genre. Learn more abd apply by December 5 at https://disquietinternational.org/apply-now/.

Note: you may also apply separately for the DISQUIET Prize, which offers one writer a full ride and has opportunities for other scholarships as well. This is a separate application with a separate $15 cost and you will be competing with writers from around the world, but it gives you another chance to be awarded funding to attend. Submit to the DISQUIET Prize by January 5 at https://disquietinternational.org/the-program/contests-scholarships/the-disquiet-prize/

We recommend applying to the regular application (and checking the box to be considered for the Literary Cleveland Fellowship) as well as applying to this DISQUIET Prize to improve your odds of getting funding.

Selection

DISQUIET staff will read through applications and select finalists from Northeast Ohio to be considered for the Literary Cleveland Fellowship. Literary Cleveland staff will select the fellowship winner from those finalists. The winner will be notified by mid-February 2026.
