"Quarry" Before You Query: Using and Keeping Commonplace Books

With:
Zebulon Horse or House

Could you write forever in an empty room? Would you rather not?

For the writer with a stack of books on (or serving as) their nightstand—for the writer who measures .pdfs and ebooks by the gigabyte—this class is an opportunity to develop new strategies for gathering the information that sustains your practice, and for putting that information to use. We'll read and discuss writers like you, who cut stone from the quarry of their reading, and therefrom, build the house of their book. Okay, that's a lot—but they did (just look to George Eliot's Quarry for Middlemach), and they do—and so will you!

We'll practice techniques during in-session exercises, and then expand and extend the approach in weekly writing. Each week, participants will receive written feedback from the instructor and from their peers; each participant will also have an opportunity to receive in-session, spoken feedback from the group.
