Entangled Wonders: A Neurodivergent Poetry Workshop

With:
Rose Zinnia

In this multi-class poetry workshop, we will read and study poems and other supplemental texts by queer, disabled, and neurodivergent writers who play with form and craft in powerful and autonomous ways. We will use these works as guides and beacons to expand the potential of our own poetry.

From Johanna Hedva's definition of the body as "a thing that needs," we will write into our own experiences of the body, mind, disability, ableism, neurodivergence, care, access, & lots more, writing into the spaces around these themes and topics—as well as any other topics that are important to us to write about!

Each week, workshop students will submit and respond to poems by each other as will the instructor (hi, it's me, Rose Zinnia). We will engage in generative class writing prompts as well as write our own poems outside of class to bring in for each week's workshops. I will supply literary & craft readings and offer my own ideas, forms, and prompts to guide participants into exploring and expanding their writing practice within the class’s modalities. By the end, I hope we will have become closer with each other as a community, grown our work in a new directions, and generated and workshopped three poems each.

Note: It is not required to identify as neurodivergent to take this class, but you should be open to neurodivergent poetics’ potential to influence and change your work, however that may look!
