Janice A. Lowe, composer, poet, pianist is the author of Leaving CLE poems of nomadic dispersal (Miami University Press) and the chapbook SWAM (Belladonna Series.) Her poems have appeared in Callaloo, Best American Experimental Writing, Solidarity Texts, Interim Poetics, American Poetry Review, In the Tradition and The Hat.

Janice A. Lowe, composer, poet, pianist is the author of Leaving CLE poems of nomadic dispersal (Miami University Press) and the chapbook SWAM (Belladonna Series.) Her poems have appeared in Callaloo, Best American Experimental Writing, Solidarity Texts, Interim Poetics, American Poetry Review, In the Tradition and The Hat. Along with collaborators Tyehimba Jess and Yahdon Israel, she is a 2020 Creative Capital Awardee for a forthcoming multi-media stage version of Jess’ OLIO. A busy multi-disciplinary artist, she is the composer of the musicals SIT-IN at the FIVE & DIME, words by Marjorie Duffield, SOMEWHERE IN TEXAS, libretto by Charles E. Drew, Jr. and LIL BUDDA, text by Stephanie L. Jones, which received a developmental residency from The Eugene O'Neill Musical Theater Conference and appeared in the NAMT Festival of New Musicals. Her love of setting all manner of text to music has resulted in collaborations with writers Tracie Morris, Tyehimba Jess, Nehassaiu deGannes, Sheila Maldonado, The Jones Twins, Jenni Lamb, Liza Jessie Peterson and others. As a pianist-vocalist, she performs with her band NAMAROON. A co-founder of the Dark Room Collective, she has taught multimedia composition at Rutgers University and in Naropa University’s Summer Writing Program-Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics. She holds an MFA in musical theater composition from New York University. She has performed at venues around the country and internationally including Nona Hendryx’s Rock Solid Women’s Festival at Joe’s Pub, Yolanda Wisher’s Rent Party at the Rosenbach, University of Cambridge, Lit Cleveland’s INKubator fest at Bop Stop, Women Between Arts with Julie Patton, Berlin Jazz Festival with HAGL, The Poetry Project with Anne Waldman and Fast Speaking Music, DUMBO Arts Festival with W/O a Net and BAM Cafe with Digital Diaspora. Her album “Leaving CLE-Songs of Nomadic Dispersal" will be released in 2020. She has been awarded fellowships from The Rauschenberg Foundation and from The Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing, University of Pennsylvania.
