Join the local literary community to honor the life and writing of Toni Morrison—Lorain native and one of the greatest writers of this or any era—on her birthday.
Literary Cleveland will partner with Ohio Humanities, Ohioana Library Association, the Toni Morrison society, and other organizations from all over the state this Toni Morrison Day to kick off a statewide year-long celebration of the iconic author's life, literature, and legacy at The Columbus Foundation, in the heart of Ohio's capital.
For LIT CLE members, Morrison fans, lit lovers, and book clubbers that cannot make it to the Columbus event, we will hold a FREE Ohio Celebrates Toni Morrison Kickoff Watch Party & Birthday Reading on Wednesday, February 18 from 5:00-8:30pm at the historic Karamu House Theatre (2355 E 89th, Cleveland OH 44106).
Attendees can watch a livestream of the Columbus kickoff from 5-7pm while mingling with fellow Morrison appreciators and friends before the community reading in tribute to Morrison's 95th birthday begins at 7-8:30pm.
This will be an open mic during which attendees can share readings from Morrison’s work and original writings influenced by Morrison. ThirdSpace Reading Room will be on hand with copies of Morrison's books for sale.
Doors open for the program at 5:00pm.
