Tie on your favorite writing robe, stretch those arm muscles, and pull up to the starting line for the virtual Gordon Square Review 5K Write-a-Thon!

During this weeklong virtual fundraiser to support GSR, participants will race to be the first to write 5,000 words...or five poems, or whatever writing goal you may have in mind. The program includes opening and closing ceremonies held via Zoom and access to a Slack channel throughout the week to help writers connect and share their progress. We'll have prizes, giveaways, writing tips and resources, interaction with GSR editors, and more.

Prepare a carb-heavy meal for energy, and...ready, set, write!

WHO

You, other writers looking to build writing endurance, and the Gordon Square Review editorial staff.

WHAT

The 5K Write-a-Thon will provide the virtual space and motivation to write for a week. It also serves as a fundraiser for Gordon Square Review, Literary Cleveland’s international literary journal that highlights Northeast Ohio writers and provides mentorships for emerging writers.

WHERE

Virtually online via Zoom and Slack.

WHEN

Sunday, March 7 through Saturday, March 13.

HOW IT WORKS

Register online for this 5K event. On Sunday, March 7 we will hold our opening ceremonies at 7pm ET. At that event we'll start the clock and any words you write in the week following will count toward your goal of 5,000 words or 5 poems. During the week, participants will be able to join our 5K Slack channel for discussion, rehydration (writing prompts), motivation and more. Finally, on Saturday, March 13 at 9am ET we will hold a closing ceremony where we will award prizes for fastest to 5,000 words and most words written, and we will give away additional items to participants.

COST

The Write-a-Thon is free, but we hope you'll consider making a voluntary donation to help support Gordon Square Review. In the spirit of a “write-a-thon,” please also consider sharing the donation link to ask friends and family to sponsor your writing time, as well—it’s a simple, concrete way they can show their support of your creative endeavors!
