Finding the time to write can be such a challenge. Fortunately, Gordon Square Review is here to help—by locking you in a room for a full day and forcing you to write! Join our inaugural Gordon Square Review Write-a-Thon on Saturday, October 19 for up to seven precious hours of writing time. You’ll also get to meet other writers, interact with Gordon Square Review editors, enjoy a beautiful downtown space at Cleveland Public Library, and help support a locally produced literary journal that spotlights and mentors regional and emerging writers.

WHO: You, other writers in desperate need of uninterrupted writing time, and the Gordon Square Review editorial staff.

WHAT: The Write-a-Thon will provide the space (as well as the requisite caffeine) to write for a full day. Bring a laptop or notepad and your imagination. The Write-a-Thon also serves as a fundraiser for Gordon Square Review, Literary Cleveland’s international literary journal that highlights Northeast Ohio writers and provides mentorships for emerging writers.

WHERE: The Write-a-Thon will take place in the board room on the 10th floor of the Louis Stokes Wing of Cleveland Public Library, located at 525 Superior Avenue, Cleveland, 44114. The space immediately outside the board room includes fantastic city views of downtown Cleveland.

WHEN: Saturday, October 19 from 10:30am to 5:30pm.

HOW IT WORKS: Register online, make a suggested donation based on the amount of time you plan to write($5/hour or $35/day), and then inform your friends and family that you’re committing to a Write-a-Thon to request their support, as well. Then simply showup with your writing supplies and get ready to get to work. The majority of the day will consist of unstructured, uninterrupted writing time, but Gordon Square Review editors will be on hand to offer writing prompts, motivation, and more. Writers also have the entirety of Cleveland Public Library’s main campus to explore on breaks.

COST: The Write-a-Thon space is open to registered attendees. While the space is free to use and no admission fee or donations are collected on site, we encourage attendees make an online donation to support Gordon Square Review at the time of registration. Donate by the hour you plan to write ($5/hour suggested donation) or by the full day ($35/day suggested donation). In the spirit of a “write-a-thon,” please also consider sharing the donation link to ask friends and family to sponsor your writing time, as well—it’s a simple, concrete way they can show their support of your creative endeavors!

ODDS & ENDS: The meeting space is accessible; please enter through the Louis Stokes Wing of the downtown Cleveland Public Library campus and take the elevator to the 10th floor. Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be provided. GSR staff will offer a list of nearby lunch spots if attendees wish to take a break and grab a quick bite.

Whether you pledge to write for an hour or the entire day, we hope to see you at our first-ever Write-a-Thon event. Make the commitment to yourself and to your writing by registering here—and be sure to spread the word to your family and friends so they can pledge donations, too.
