Workshop

Unexpected Perspectives: POV in Short Stories

With:
Fatima Matar

You wrote about your cat, but did you ever write what you - suspect - your cat thinks of you? You wrote about your experience during the pandemic, but did you ever consider how COVID-19 is feeling right now?

Writing from a completely different perspective than yours is all about using your imagination and seeing reality through fresh and foreign eyes.

In this three-week short story writing course, we’re leaving everything we believe is true aside, and trying to walk in someone (or something) else’s shoes, or paws!

Let your writing voice be the naive voice of your childhood stuffed toy, if 'Squishy' suddenly turned up at your doorstep to tell you what kind of life its lived since your Mom gave it to Goodwill decades ago. Or the sardonic voice of your hand-held shower head when you’re pretending to be Beyoncé!

You never know what story you’ll end up writing; awe striking, laugh out loud, or a total tear jerker.
