Introduction to Poetry

This class will function as a generative workshop and craft talk. Throughout this course, we will engage with different poetic forms and a variety of poets at an introductory level. We will identify and discuss conventions, styles, poetic movements and respond to these with our own poetry. The first portion of the course will focus on the work of others and the latter will focus on how our own work fits into a larger poetic narrative.

‍Format: Generative and craft workshop with writing outside of class.

‍Location: This class takes place remotely online via Zoom.

‍Size: Limited to 12 participants (including scholarships).

‍Suggested Sequence: Follow this class with an intermediate level or all levels poetry course.

‍Scholarships: Two scholarship spots are available for this class for writers in Northeast Ohio. Apply by December 1.
