Workshop

In Advance of the Broken Essay: Formal Explorations in Nonfiction

With:
Zach Peckham

Theses? Paragraphs? Conclusions? In this generative workshop we will question, explore, and attempt nonfiction writing beyond the traceable contours of narrative, rhetoric, and argument. Favoring possibilities of the fragmentary, the multimodal, and the synesthetic, we will survey contemporary examples of hybrid and chaotic approaches to the form and attempt experiments of our own. We will adopt alternative compositional strategies for essay-making that may help to invigorate an existing project or embark on an exciting new one, while broadening the notion of what an essay is and what is an essay.
