Have you always wanted to write and perform your own work? Here's an opportunity to develop your one-person play, story, or comic monologue, and see it performed in a low pressure setting by you or an actor. Writers of all levels and backgrounds welcome. In this workshop, we'll explore the art of crafting the one person performance through writing exercises, experimentation, discussion of craft, and feedback. We'll also learn from examples of work by writers who excel in this form. Over three sessions, develop a concept you already have, or germinate a new idea. The fourth and final session of the workshop will consist of an informal performance for participants and their invited guests at a local bar or restaurant.
Dale Heinen has directed over 30 professional theatre productions and has developed new plays with writers in London, New York, Chicago and Cleveland, including several original one-person shows, such as Peasant by Susan Ferrara (off-Broadway), Hadley's Experiment by improv guru Chris Johnston (London and UK Tour), and most recently This is NOT About My Dead Dog by Amy Schwabauer (Playwrights' Local, Cleveland). Dale has a BA from Northwestern and an MFA in Theatre Directing from Middlesex University in London.
