About the Presenters:
Catherine Wing was born in Louisville, Kentucky, and attended Brown University before earning her MFA from the University of Washington. Her collections of poetry include Enter Invisible (2005), nominated for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, and Gin & Bleach (2012). Her poetry has appeared in such journals as Poetry, the Nation, and the Chicago Review and has been featured in a number of anthologies, including Best American Poetry (2010). Wing teaches at Kent State.
Daniel Gray-Kontar is a poet, rapper, journalist, educator, and youth mentor. Gray-Kontar, whose poetry has appeared in many anthologies, is also the 1994 national poetry slam co-champion. His music and social criticism have appeared in The Village Voice and other magazines. He is the founder and director of Twelve Literary and Performative Arts Incubator.
Christine Howey, a transgender woman who transitioned at age 45 in 1990, is a playwright, actor, theater critic and performance poet. Born and raised as Richard Howey in Cleveland, Ohio, she graduated from Kent State University with a BA in English. After college, Richard was very active as an actor and director at Dobama Theatre in Cleveland Heights. In 2010, Christine began writing Exact Change, an exploration of her transition, which had its world premiere in January 2014, at Cleveland Public Theatre in Cleveland. For more than 15 years Christine has been the theater critic for Scene magazine in Cleveland, and she has been named Best Critic in Ohio by both the Press Club of Cleveland and the Society for Professional Journalists. Christine’s chapbook of poetry was published in 2011.
