Crossing Borders: Immigrant Narratives is a powerful 60-minute show directed by Marc Moritz featuring poems, essays and stories written by immigrants from Syria, Colombia, Czechoslovakia, China, India and many other nations. During the show, these pieces will be performed by professional actors.
Writers featured include Maria Perilla, Barbara Belovich, Viplav Saini, Jill Veleba Sell, Daniel Gray-Kontar, Lola Farron, Bayan Aljbawi, Mary Robles, Elizabeth Figueroa, Jason Jaffrey, Lisa Chiu, Charlotte Morgan, Philip Metres, Lee Chilcote, Laurel Domanski-Diaz, Lara Lillibridge, and Thrity Umrigar.
The event is featured as part of Gordon Square Presents, a series of 6 free outdoor performances at the Sullivan Family Plaza of Near West Theatre, located in the heart of the neighborhood at 6702 Detroit Avenue. A diverse variety of talented local bands and performers will enliven the plaza with music and art, alongside food from Gordon Square restaurants and wares from nearby shops.
